FAQs
So What is Play Therapy?
Play Therapy is a type of counselling for children which involves developing a bond and mutual respect with a child in the certainty that a child can solve their own problems with time and support. Play allows children to experience and understand feelings in a safe way. Play is a child's natural form of expression and learning.
This work can also involve working with families, offering parenting support to parents, guardians and foster carers and advice on co-parenting for families going through a separation or divorce.
What happens in a Play Therapy Session?
In a play therapy session the Play Therapist follows the child's lead and allows them to explore the range of toys available. The Play Therapist creates a safe and trusting environment and as the relationship develops the child feels accepted enough to express their negative feelings and gains a greater insight into their problems and how these can be overcome through their play. The Play Therapist facilitates this through the use of their specialised skills and techniques.
